Ever wonder what it’s like to drive a motorcycle through Blue Ridge Parkway? Puck Byrne recently left on a cross country motorcycle journey and we hooked him up with a GoPRO Hero cam for his bike. He did some cruising through the mountains over the weekend and got his first round of footage up on the web.
We play with knives a lot around here. It isn’t uncommon to trim prints for mounting or make a few cuts and have a mock up of something for a print estimate. This stuff from Adam5100 is quite a bit different. Creating paintings out of multiple stencils, Adam5100 probably goes through a ton of X-Acto blades. Here are a few shots from his workspace. You can check out photos from his gallery opening over at Arrested Motion.
The 99 Percent has a great article up on conquering your tasks during the 9-5. Oddly enough these habits are pretty standard here at WORK. Thanks to Sarah Rapp and The 99 Percent, we have it all nice and neat to share with everyone else. Feel free to insert your morning snack of choice between steps one and two.
Step 1: Spend 30 minutes scanning email and responding to urgent items.
Step 2: Turn off email and other distractions. Focus for 2-3 hours on completing your “Most Important Task.”
Step 3: Take a lunch break away from your desk. Leaving your computer and recharging is the key to being productive after your MIT time.
Step 4: Devote the post-lunch day to taking care of ongoing tasks and other “reactionary work” that requires less mental stamina.
It has been quite some time since we started this blog and there is a bit of a new era being ushered in here at WORK Labs. Our long time compatriot and design slave, Puck Byrne is heading on to asphaulty pastures. Watch out America! Busch six-packs, hot rubber and conveniently lightweight tents are headed your way. Puck will be embarking on a motorcycle adventure that will take him to the West and back over the course of a few months. May the trail he blaze take him to places he’s never seen, like In-And-Out Burger.
Who will fill his shoes you might ask? WORK Labs will ride the fine line between genius and insanity. My name is Andy and I am a studio designer here at WORK Labs. When I am not abusing cold-calling salespeople over the phone you can catch me eating nachos.
Here are a few things I would recommend doing this afternoon.
Show & Tell – Follow Cabell Harris and his team of super students at the VCU Brandcenter as they post captivating inspiration and stimuli.
Layer Tennis Recap – Season 3 of Layer Tennis recently wrapped and they have a nice recap video up on the site. Fantastic inspiration from some great artists and designers.
Nate’s Taco Truck Shop – The same guy peddling tacos at the VCU compass now has a storefront in Jackson Ward. It’s delicious!
